KEMBLA Grange trainer Kristie George is getting a reputation as "a horse fixer" and will continue her work with Icebergs in the Les Wilson Senior Illawarra Leagues Club Cup (1000m) at Kembla Grange today.
The Westbridge four-year-old arrived at George's stable for this preparation after spending most of his career around Port Macquarie."Horses like him have to step up to our racing," George said."The first couple of runs is about finding out if he is up to (provincial) standard. "One of my owners bought him for $5000 at a tried horse sale and gave him to me saying 'see how he goes'."It seems like everyone thinks I'm a horse fixer and can get them going when no-one else can."Icebergs had done enough on the track to suggest he would perform well at Nowra last Sunday. He was backed from $11 to $8 late in betting but never gave his supporters any hope in a Rating 57 Handicap."(Apprentice) Daniel Edmonds rode him and was a little close to the front but (Icebergs) was disappointing," George said."On his work I thought it was a race he could win. We didn't really learn much about him from that run, so Paul (Rowe) will ride him (today) and we'll try to get some feedback on him."Rowe, who is George's partner, rides all the work on Icebergs and today's assignment is as much about learning about the horse as winning."We want to find out what works and what doesn't," George said."Paul will give me something to work with and we'll go from there."Icebergs is a $21 outsider in a race dominated by Buttido ($2.80) and Royal Esprit ($3).
