ROOKIE jockey Nathan Berry has been found guilty of failing to ride his mount Fabianska to the line after it lost by a short head to a horse ridden by his twin brother Tommy in a race at Broadmeadow on Saturday.

The 17-year-old was grilled by stewards after the 1600 metres maiden in which Fabianska ($10) led into the straight but was run down by Aristocratico ($2.60), which came down the outside to score the narrow win.

The inquiry into the ride was part of an action-packed day at Broadmeadow, and stewards worked late into the night to clear up a number of cases that kept jockeys, trainers and representatives at the track until 9.30pm.

Stewards found Nathan Berry guilty, but after a plea from his mother Julie it was elected to adjourn the inquiry until his father, trainer Kevin Berry, was able to attend and present further evidence.

"There is no suggestion that Nathan did not ride his mount out to help his brother," chief steward Steve Carvosso said.

"It is a matter that stewards believed he could have shown more vigour."

Kevin Berry told The Herald yesterday that Nathan had "misjudged where the winning post was".

"The boys are very competitive towards each other . . . they race each other to be the first to the shower," he said.

In other news from Saturday, champion Newcastle jockey Allan Robinson was outed for six meetings for causing interference to General Ross in the same race as the Berry saga. Emma Telfer (Superreact) was given a three-meeting ban for causing interference to Magic Eagle in the last race.

Newcastle trainer Michael Dwyer was fined $1000 for not informing stewards quickly enough that his representative, Rose Of Ghataas, had bled during the second race.
