THE Maitland Super Show celebrates its 147th year this weekend at Maitland Showground.
Restrictions on horse movements imposed by equine influenza (EI) mean horses will be absent from the centre ring, but the show will go on with a full program, culminating in fireworks tonight and tomorrow night.Show manager Athol Tierney said horses would be back next year, since NSW had been declared free of EI.A new feature this year is the amateur photography show, which includes an open competition and a category for children under 16.The Australiana living history exhibition will demonstrate the forgotten skills of bygone days, including rope, broom and butter-making. "The fellow uses all the old tools and has a dog that rounds up ducks," Mr Tierney said."It's very interesting for the children, who have never seen anything like it before."Animal lovers can visit the animal nursery or any of the exhibitions of camels, poultry, pigeons, dogs, Galloway cattle and goats.Entertainment includes the Oakfield wild west show, clowns, speed car and motocross displays. There will be dancing demonstrations and competitions and an aerobatic display on Sunday.
