SHE IS better known as a jumps trainer, but Lyn Tolson could have a horse with group race potential on her hands after the remarkable victory of Just Look in yesterday's listed Lord Stakes at Caulfield.
The little-known five-year-old by Fraar was last in the 12-horse field on the home turn before unleashing a devastating sprint to win easily and give Tolson and her horse their first listed race win. It is unlikely to be their last."We threw him in the deep end today to see how he'd go, so we're happy with that," she said after the 1-length win."The owners wanted to see where he's at and now we know he's pretty good."Just Look ($8) cruised home at just his 12th start ahead of Davcon ($7.50), with God's Hand ($13) third. Tolson said she would give Just Look a short break and look at some of the better races in the autumn.Christmas Stakes winner Mind Your Head was never going to be an early leader in yesterday's listed race, yet trainer John Ledger figured the on-pace pattern at Caulfield was going to suit him."The bias to the leaders meant there was always going to be plenty of speed in the race and that meant he didn't over-race, which has been his habit," Ledger said."He's beaten himself many times, but today it worked out just right for him with the pace on."After four of the previous five winners had led and won, Mind Your Head ($8) came from off the speed to race away inside the 200metres to hold off Orbit Express ($6) by a long neck.Mind Your Head showed plenty of promise as a young horse but "lost his way", according to Ledger, after he was tried over longer trips last campaign. "He races too fierce to race over further, so we'll keep him to the shorter races," he said.
