KEMBLA Grange trainer Gwenda Markwell bid farewell to her favourite horse, Grand Zulu, this week but might have unearthed a new star at Wyong on Tuesday.

Markwell was coming to terms with the end of Grand Zulu's career as Zaretti broke the 1300-metre track record at Wyong.

"Ricky just came to the end of the line," she said of the horse which won The BMW in 2004. "We never saw the best of him. He went to Hong Kong and wasn't the same horse when he came back. It's exciting to have another horse like Zaretti, but he has to train on."
