Barefoot Trimmer

Darren Robertson is one of the first 10 Australian Barefoot Trimmers certified by US based Farrier Martha Olivo. Martha is probably one of the best of the American Barefoot Pioneers and her trip to Australia in 2004 has allowed Australia to be at the leading edge of Barefoot Trimming. Since doing the Martha Olivo Course I have completed two TAFE Diplomas in Horse Performance and care as well Equine Massage. From the early days of Trimming after the course with Martha I had discovered that trimming the hoof is only half the solution. Many people Trimming horses feet wether they be Farriers or Barefoot trimmers are unaware of the benefits of Bio-Mechanics when used with hoof care. Since learning about equine massage we can now use the horses body to tell wether the trimming of the hoof is correct. If a horse is barefoot then these bio-mechanics are more important. When a horse is shod some of the damage from incorrect balance is mitigated until the shoes come off. When barefoot damage can increase unless managed by someone skilled in reading the horses muscles to learn what to trim and how to trim correctly. There are a growing number of people learning these Rehab techniques. Darren will be traveling Australia running clinics to teach horse owners, Farriers and Barefoot Trimmers the basics of horse bio-mechanics and how to read the muscles of a horse to increase performance. Darren also has a rehab facility set up in Sydney to handle trickier cases.
